Nthato Moagi is a qualified Rocket Scientist, inventor and social entrepreneur who was born and bred in the dusty streets of Soweto. As a self-proclaimed ‘social engineer’, Nthato is passionate about design, technology, innovation and most importantly, education. While completing his BSc Aeronautical Engineering degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, Nthato designed the LCERT (Low Cost Educational Robotics Toy) in order to develop affordable educational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) resources for learners in South Africa and the rest of the developing world.
After graduating in 2014, Nthato went on to work on missiles, drones at Denel Dynamics. After hours, Nthato works on his startup called “CRSP dsgn”, which he founded to develop innovative technologies for social impact. Through CRSP dsgn, he successfully commercialised his LCERT invention for the South African market. A few months after being a finalist at the Hack Jozi Challenge competition, Nthato went on to win first place at the 2016 SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards, which saw him bag seed funding and business support for his startup. Nthato is currently refining the design of the LCERT kit, in order to bring it to S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) classrooms across the country in the near future.
Nthato is involved with various other organisations centered around education and social impact. One of these, is Brightest Young Minds (BYM), where Nthato is involved in a team which founded a social enterprise with the aim of democratizing education in Africa.
